ITES/BPO Investment Promotion
In view of the current boom in the ITES sector and emergence of India as a preferred BPO destination, it deserves special efforts to create a large pool of young and employable graduates to capitalize on the opportunities in this sector. Realizing the potentials in this ITES sector, most of the States have accorded the same degree of importance and incentives to the ITES industry as made available to the IT industry.
The ITES sector differs from the IT industry in many ways.
- The manpower requirement of ITES industry: It needs graduates and undergraduates more from general streams like Arts, Commerce and Science with soft skills.
- The investments requirement per employee in core infrastructure and facilities is higher as compared to that in an IT industry.
- 24x7 operation as opposed to one/two shift operation in the IT industry.
- The compensation package at entry level is much smaller compared to those in the IT sector though there is ample scope for fast growth.
Recognizing the fact that the ITES sector will play a vital role in employment generation, OCAC has offered one year rent subsidy to BPO units operating in designated Government buildings. The scheme is being administered through the Cell. The Cell besides running an in house model programme on Commun-ication skills and Personality Development evaluates and organizes training programs through private companies for graduates in order to impart soft skills and enhance their employability through personality development programmes on a larger scale.
