Data science is a multi-disciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms, and systems to extract knowledge and insights from structured and unstructured data. Data science is the same concept as data mining and big data: "use the most powerful hardware, the most powerful programming systems, and the most efficient algorithms to solve problems".
R is widely used by statisticians and data miners for creating or developing statistical and data analysis tools and software. R was designed and developed by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman. The name "R" was partly derived from the first letters of the authors' names and also as a play on the name of the S programming language.
THE CURRICULUM
The course is intended to provide a fairly good knowledge of Data Science which involves the execution of different phases of analytics projects such as data manipulation, visualization and predictive model building using R software. This course also provides training on general programming with R, using in-built data objects and also on writing custom functions and programs.
